To Whom It May Concern,

We would like to inform you of an important update to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s Laptop Subsidy Program for students in grades 9 to 12.

As part of the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative, all students in high school are required to have access to a laptop or tablet to support their learning. This program aims to provide personalized learning opportunities that help prepare students for post-secondary education and the workforce.

To support families facing financial pressures, the Department continues to offer a financial assistance program for low- to middle-income households.

Due to rising technology costs, the full subsidy amount has been adjusted to $685.15 to reflect the current cost of the standard laptop available through our partner vendor, IMP Solutions.

However, families who qualify for partial assistance will continue to receive $400, $200, or $0 depending on eligibility criteria.

Families can continue to choose one of two support options:

  1. Reimbursement: Purchase a laptop that meets the minimum device requirements and submit a request for reimbursement within six months of purchase. Reimbursements can be made by e-transfer or cheque.
  1. Subsidy Code: Apply for a subsidy online. If approved, you will receive a subsidy code to use toward the online purchase of a laptop from IMP Solutions. The standard device offered through this option is the Lenovo 500w 2-in-1. With the updated subsidy amount of $685.15, the full cost of this laptop is now fully covered.

We remain committed to ensuring equitable access to learning tools for all students. For more information or to apply, please visit the following website.
